American Depositary Receipt (ADR) Japanese stocks, compared to the Tokyo Stock Exchange (converted at 1 dollar = 143.23 yen), companies such as Japan Post Bank <7182>, Mitsubishi Corporation <8058>, Chugai Pharmaceutical <4519>, Nippon Densan <6594>, Murata Manufacturing <6981>, Toyota Industries <6201>, Bridgestone <5108> etc. declined, with a slightly bearish tone overall. The clearing price of Chicago Nikkei 225 futures was 150 yen lower at 37,670 yen compared to the Osaka daytime market.

The U.S. stock market continued to rise. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 42,208.22, up 83.57 points, while the Nasdaq ended trading at 18,074.52, up 100.25 points. Following the expectations of additional rate cuts within the year and China's economic stimulus measures, the global economic outlook improved. After the opening, there was an increase. However, as the September consumer confidence index fell short of estimates, optimism about the economy receded, resulting in selling pressure. Profit-taking selling was observed near historic highs for the Dow, causing its growth to stall. The Nasdaq, driven by demand for artificial intelligence (AI), showed strong buying interest in semiconductors such as Nvidia (NVDA), pushing the market higher and staying resilient. Towards the end of the session, the Dow also recovered into positive territory, updating record highs daily before closing.

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 24th, the Dollar-Yen pair rose to 144.20 yen, then fell to 143.11 yen before closing at 143.17 yen. The yen weakened due to diminished expectations of an early additional rate hike in Japan, as well as an unexpected improvement in the Chicago Fed National Activity Index for August and comments by Bowman, an FRB official, who opposed a significant rate cut by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), citing inflation risks. This led to a rise in U.S. bond yields and a preference for buying the dollar. Subsequently, as the September consumer confidence index and the September Richmond Fed Manufacturing Index fell below expectations, long-term interest rates declined, causing an acceleration in dollar selling. Following lackluster results from the U.S. 2-year bond auction, dollar selling also eased. The Euro-Dollar pair rose from 1.1130 to 1.1179 before closing at 1.1178.

NY crude oil futures for November moved steadily (NYMEX crude oil November futures closing price: $71.56, up $1.19).
