According to Reuters on September 24th, Takahiro Mori, Vice Chairman of Nippon Steel, stated on Tuesday that the company is still committed to negotiating the acquisition of United States Steel with the United Steelworkers (USW). As the main negotiator for the acquisition deal, Mori, in a letter to employees of the United States Steel company, expressed that USW President David McCall "has not seriously considered any of the suggestions we have made". We just need the USW leadership to sit down at the negotiating table, and we hope they will do so in the near future. Previously, the U.S. National Security Council responsible for reviewing the trade allowed the two companies to resubmit their approval application, delaying the decision on this politically sensitive merger case until after the November 5th presidential election. The two companies plan to complete the trade by the end of December after obtaining regulatory approval.
