According to Reuters on September 24th, the state of California in the USA, along with multiple eco-friendly organizations, filed a lawsuit against Exxon Mobil, accusing the petroleum giant of participating in a decades-long movement that has fueled global plastics pollution. California Attorney General Rob Bonta stated at an event during Climate Week in New York City that after nearly two years of investigation, California sued Exxon Mobil. The investigation revealed that Exxon Mobil deliberately misled the public regarding the limitations of recycling. This action intensifies the long-standing hostile relationship between California and the oil giants. California used to be a major crude oil supplier, but its oil production has been steadily declining for nearly forty years. Companies claim that the regulatory environment makes it a challenging place to invest. Meanwhile, Exxon Mobil's competitor Chevron strongly criticizes California's policies. The company announced this year its plans to move its headquarters from California to Texas, which is more friendly to the oil industry.
