In a public letter issued by National Security Leaders in the usa, 741 former national security officials from both parties support Harris for president, calling Trump "impulsive and ignorant"; signers include Democratic supporters Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, as well as former Republican Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and William Conn's.

On September 23, the National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A) jointly published a public letter, in which over 700 former national security and military officials support Vice President Kamala Harris's victory in this year's election, rather than the former president, Donald Trump.

NSL4A wrote: "This election is a choice between serious leadership and impulsive revenge." NSL4A is composed of high-level leaders from both parties who have served in the military and other government institutions and agencies.

"We are trained to make sober, rational decisions. That's why we know Vice President Harris would be an excellent commander-in-chief, while Mr. Trump has proven himself incapable of handling this job," they added.

The statement criticizing Trump's "impulsiveness and ignorance" has 741 signatories, including Democratic supporters Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, as well as former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and William Conn's, who have previously served under Democratic presidents.

Reportedly, the signatories of this public letter include 15 retired four-star generals (the highest rank in the active duty U.S. military), 12 former cabinet-level officials, 8 army secretaries, over 120 ambassadors, and 3 officials from the Trump era.

These three officials from the "Trump era" include retired U.S. Army General Peter W. Chiarelli; retired U.S. Air Force General Paul Selva, who served as the 10th Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the second highest-ranking officer in the U.S., and the highest-ranking officer in the Air Force; and retired Major General Eric Thorne Olson.

"Trump is the first president in american history to actively disrupt the peaceful transfer of power, which is the foundation of american democracy," the letter said. "Regarding the attempt to overturn the 2020 election on January 6, he showed no remorse, promised to pardon the convicted instigators, and explicitly stated that if he fails again, he will not respect the results of the 2024 election."

The letter also criticizes Trump for publicly and privately criticizing the leaders of the United Kingdom, Israel, Australia, Canada, Germany, and other American allies, and for his decision to abandon the Syrian Kurdish armed allies in the event of a possible attack by Turkey in 2019.

Steven Cheung, the director of communications for the Trump campaign, responded to the critical letter, saying, "It is these people who have plunged our country into endless foreign wars and profited from the suffering of the American people. President Trump is the only modern president who has not dragged our country into any new wars."

Last Wednesday, 111 former Republican national security and foreign policy officials wrote a letter supporting Harris, stating that Trump is "unfit for office."

Harris's campaign has been seeking to attract conservative and moderate voters who may be undecided about voting for Trump since August, starting with the "Republicans for Harris" initiative. Since then, the Vice President has gained support from several prominent Republicans, including former vice president Dick Cheney under President George W. Bush.

"Trump is threatening our democracy. He has said so himself. He called for the 'termination' of parts of the Constitution. He said he wants to be a 'dictator,' clarifying that he would only be a dictator for one day, which is concerning," the letter adds.
