According to the preliminary statistical figures, the overall local Gross Domestic Product (GDP) substantially increased by 3.3% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the first quarter of 2024 was 2.8%.
In terms of the composition of the service industry and comparison with the same period last year, the combined value added of all service activities substantially increased by 2.1% in the second quarter of 2024, compared to an increase of 3.1% in the first quarter.
The value added of import and export trade, wholesale, and retail trade showed a slight substantial decline of 0.1% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, while it increased by 0.9% in the first quarter.
The value added of lodging and food services substantially declined by 6.3% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, while it increased by 0.9% in the first quarter.
The value added of transportation, storage, postal, and courier services substantially increased by 10.5% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the first quarter was 19.5%.
The value added of information and communication industry substantially increased by 2.2% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, which is roughly the same as the increase in the first quarter.
In the second quarter of 2024, the value added in the financial and insurance industry increased by 0.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, while it decreased by 0.5% in the first quarter.
The value added in the real estate, professional, and commercial services industry recorded a substantial increase of 3.2% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, while the increase in the first quarter was 1.2%.
The value added in the public administration, social and personal services industry increased by 2.8% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, while the increase in the first quarter was 3.1%.
For industries other than the service industry, the value added in the local manufacturing industry increased by 0.7% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, while the increase in the first quarter was 1.8%.
The value added in the electrical utilities, gas and water supply, and waste management industry increased by 1.6% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, while the increase in the first quarter was 4.3%.
After a substantial increase of 9.2% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, the value added in the construction industry further increased by 17.2% in the second quarter.
