A new machinery factory in India has been completed

September 19, 2024

Brother Industries, Ltd.

Brother Industries Ltd. (President: Kazufumi Ikeda), a subsidiary of Brother Machinery (India), has completed the construction of a new factory for machine tools near Bengaluru in southern India. This is the company's third production base for machine tools, following Japan and China, and it is scheduled to start operation in December 2024.

Brother positions the "Industrial" field as a focus area in its Brother Group Vision "At your side 2030" for the fiscal year 2030, and aims for significant growth in the industrial equipment business, which includes machine tools. The newly completed factory will serve as a base for strengthening production in the field of machine tools and contribute to the realization of the vision.

India, which currently has the highest population in the world, is expected to continue experiencing population growth and economic development, leading to an anticipated expansion in the demand for machinery, particularly for automobiles and motorcycles. Brother has opened the Brother Technology Center Bengaluru in March 2021 and the Brother Technology Center Gurugram in May 2023, which serve as service and support bases with showrooms for machinery. In addition, in March 2022, Brother Machinery (India) was established in Bengaluru to provide after-sales service, technical support, and marketing for machinery. Now, we have added production capabilities to Brother Machinery (India) and constructed a new factory in the Japanese Industrial Township (JIT) in the Tomkur district, located about a 1.5-hour drive from the city center of Bengaluru. The completed factory is scheduled to start operating in December 2024 and will initially focus on the production of the S500Bd1 and S700Bd1 standard models, aiming to expand into various markets such as motorcycles, automobiles, and the medical field.

Currently, machinery is being produced at Brother's Kariya Plant in Japan and Brother Machinery (Xi'an) in China. By producing machinery at the Brother Machinery (India) factory, we will establish a system that allows us to deliver products to our customers in India with shorter lead times.

Furthermore, at this factory, we have installed solar panels on the rooftop as part of our efforts to reduce CO2 emissions. By utilizing renewable energy to cover a portion of the required power for factory operations, we plan to achieve a reduction of approximately 600 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Brother will continue to strengthen its production base for machinery and deliver value to customers quickly, aiming for advancements in the industrial field.
