According to the Zhitong Finance APP, a SpaceX executive stated that the company recently reached an agreement with United Airlines (UAL.US) to provide free internet connection for all flight passengers, and the backlog of Starlink Wi-Fi orders has nearly doubled. According to the agreement, United Airlines will provide in-flight connectivity services on all its planes in the next few years, with testing set to begin early next year. This is also the largest airborne connectivity agreement for Starlink.
Nick Galano, Head of Starlink Sales and Partnerships, stated at the World Commercial Space Week conference in Paris: "We have now signed contracts with about 2,500 aircraft, which is very exciting for us. This will bring continuous growth to this startup and resonate with all passengers and airlines worldwide."
It is understood that SpaceX has started providing in-flight Wi-Fi services for Hawaiian Airlines (HA.US), Qatar Airways, Zipair Tokyo, airBaltic in Latvia, and semi-private airline JSX.
Galano said that the Starlink satellite constellation's capacity could be "over 100 times" that of all traditional systems, with current capacity exceeding 300 terabits per second.
Currently, there are approximately 6,400 Starlink satellites in orbit, connecting over 3 million customers. SpaceX is also not slowing down, launching a new satellite-carrying rocket approximately every three days this year.
