Insiders At Mohawk Industries Sold US$7.5m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Sep 17 23:20

Over the past year, many Mohawk Industries, Inc. (NYSE:MHK) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Mohawk Industries Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by Chairman & CEO Jeffrey Lorberbaum was not their only sale of Mohawk Industries shares this year. Earlier in the year, they fetched US$163 per share in a -US$2.3m sale. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$156. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders.
