On September 17th, Meta Platforms announced that it will introduce special accounts with new privacy settings for teenage users on Instagram. This is the company's latest move to limit teenage exposure to harmful content on its application under regulatory pressure. Meta states that it will automatically transfer all designated accounts to teenage accounts, which are preset as private accounts. Users of these accounts can only send messages and tag others through their followers or connected accounts, and sensitive content settings will be adjusted to the strictest available settings. Users under the age of 16 can only change the preset settings with parental permission. Parents will also have a set of settings to monitor who their children are interacting with and restrict their usage of the application.
