Have HA Sustainable Infrastructure Capital Insiders Been Selling Stock?

Simply Wall St ·  Sep 15 20:58

We'd be surprised if HA Sustainable Infrastructure Capital, Inc. (NYSE:HASI) shareholders haven't noticed that the Executive VP & Chief Investment Officer, Nathaniel Rose, recently sold US$335k worth of stock at US$33.50 per share. On the bright side, that sale was only 6.2% of their holding, so we doubt it's very meaningful, on its own.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At HA Sustainable Infrastructure Capital

Notably, that recent sale by Nathaniel Rose is the biggest insider sale of HA Sustainable Infrastructure Capital shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$34.70). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was only 6.2% of Nathaniel Rose's holding.

Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Insiders own 2.1% of HA Sustainable Infrastructure Capital shares, worth about US$87m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
