The demolition of the Shah Alam Stadium is expected to take until May 2025, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said the new Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) will be developed simultaneously, subject to the old structure's demolition stage.
Najwan said that so far, there have not been complaints from Section 13 residents around the site on issues regarding the stadium's demolition.
"We cannot deny that when demolition is carried out, air quality in the area will be affected by dust, but it has been handled well so far."However, I have seen many sentimental comments on social media of people sharing their memories at Shah Alam Stadium ... but we must continue (the demolition) to upgrade the stadium and sports development in Selangor," he said.Previously, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) said the development of the KSSA, to be done in three phases, will be completed by 2029.
Project unit general manager Datuk Ruslan Abdul Aziz said the first phase involves demolishing the Shah Alam Stadium and building the KSSA, expected to be done by December 2026, while the second phase, slated for January 2027, involves the construction of a closed theatre, youth and sports wing, and recreational areas.
He said the final phase involves building an integrated terminal and hotel, set to commence between January 2028 and December 2029.
