According to Futubull Finance APP, US United Airlines (UAL.US) announced on Friday that it plans to provide free onboard Wi-Fi provided by SpaceX's Starlink on hundreds of its jetliners, marking SpaceX's largest onboard internet transaction to date. The airline has been investing in faster onboard Wi-Fi.

The transaction between United Airlines and Starlink covers a fleet of over 1000 aircraft, and the company has stated that it will begin testing Starlink services on its aircraft in early 2025.

Delta Air Lines announced in early 2023 that members of its SkyMiles loyalty program would have free onboard internet access. Hawaiian Airlines, which has an agreement with Starlink, also offers free onboard Wi-Fi. JetBlue Airways has been providing free Wi-Fi for many years.

SpaceX previously reached an agreement with the semi-private airline JSX.

Since its debut in 2020, SpaceX has been steadily expanding its Starlink network and product offerings. The company claims that there are currently approximately 6000 Starlink satellites operating in orbit, connecting over 3 million customers in 100 countries. While SpaceX's initial target was consumers, it has expanded to include other markets, including aviation.

US United Airlines has lavishly praised SpaceX's satellite service, stating that it provides "global internet access, including remote areas such as oceans, polar regions, and other remote areas where traditional mobile or Wi-Fi signals were previously unavailable." It also noted that this is one of the selling points of the United Airlines, which serves the most in the Atlantic and Pacific regions.
