According to the Macao Statistics and Census Bureau's latest hotel industry survey, Macau's hotel industry recorded a profit of MOP 8.179 billion in 2023, compared to a loss of $5.098 billion in 2022, while reflecting a 3-fold increase in value added by the hotel industry to Macao's economy, which increased by 3 times year-on-year to $20.35.
The survey showed that there were 145 hotel establishments in operation in Macau in 2023, an increase of 12 year-on-year; the number of employees was 0.0457 million, an increase of 27.8% year-on-year. The number of rooms available in the industry was 0.0466 million, up 23.8% year-on-year; the average occupancy rate was 81.5%, up 43.1 percentage points year-on-year.
The Macao Statistics and Census Bureau also pointed out that as the number of hotel guests grew significantly, the rebound in room occupancy led industry revenues to rise 1.4 times year-on-year to $37.93 billion. Spending also increased 41.1% to $29.84 billion. (js/k)
