As an important driving force for the rapid development of the smart industry, digital maps play a very important role in everyday smart and intelligent mobility, cultural tourism, entertainment, retail chains, etc., and are an important help for various industries to enhance user experience and help improve business quality and efficiency. So, in the field of mobile travel, how can map platforms help improve the efficiency of the user experience of travel platforms, how can the two sides build a win-win situation, and what new opportunities will there be for future cooperation?
Recently, at the “Tencent Map Industry Application” section of the 2024 Tencent Global Digital Ecosystem Conference, Duan Jianbo, co-founder and technical vice president of Tick Tick Travel, brought a theme sharing session entitled “Jointly Building a New Shared Mobility Ecosystem”, explaining in depth the story behind the cooperation between Tick Tick Travel and Tencent Maps, how to build a win-win situation, and new prospects for future cooperation.
The following is a summary of Duan Jianbo's speech:
Hello everyone, I'm Duan Jianbo, co-founder of Tick Tock Travel. Thanks to Tencent for the invitation, and thank the few guests just now for their wonderful speeches! Next, I'll take this opportunity to report to you on the latest developments in Tick Tick Travel.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Tick Tock Travel. We just celebrated our 10th anniversary. Also in June of this year, we went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Many of my friends say that you “sharpen one sword in ten years”.
01 Sharpen your sword in ten years and embark on a new journey
Why is Tick Tick the “first share in shared travel”? There is a close relationship with both of our businesses. Tick Tock Travel's main business is Shunfeng. We insist on compliant, low-carbon, and environmentally friendly rides, so that real private car owners can share their seats with passengers. Over the past ten years, Tick Tock Shunfeng owners and passengers have shared more than 40.37 billion kilometers, and Tick Tock Shunfeng owners have shared more than 1.2 billion vacant seats. Currently, Tick Tock Shunfeng has been opened in 366 cities.
In addition to rides, we are also doing a “smart taxi” business to promote “taxis and new mobility.” So where is the “new” and where is the “wisdom”?
Currently, the number of traditional taxi orders in the country exceeds 40 million, but the peak number of online taxi orders is no more than 5 million orders. A large number of taxi trips still come from relying on traditional roadside recruitment methods.
Therefore, since 2019, Tick Tock Travel has promoted the “Taxi · New Mobility” strategy. We have moved from digital recruitment to help digitally upgrade the entire taxi chain to achieve comprehensive improvements in passenger experience, driver service, and industry operation and management efficiency.
At present, we have reached “taxi · new travel” cooperation with 96 cities across the country, and have launched smart taxi codes in cities such as Xi'an, Jinan, and Qiqihar. This allows Yangzhao users to send destinations, modify routes, evaluate services, find lost items, etc., and achieve the same experience as taking a taxi online. At the same time, we have developed the Tick Tick Phoenix Cloud platform for taxi companies and associations around the world to help improve the quality and efficiency of taxi service operation and management in various regions.
After ten years of development, Tick Tick Chuxing now has 0.368 billion registered users and 17.7 million certified private car owners.
02 Tick Tock shared core has natural ESG attributes
Next, I'll talk about Tick Tick's service feature: “Sharing.” We believe that in the industrial sector, transportation capacity is the core, but the most critical thing is the right of way: roads are limited; no country can expand roads without restrictions or provide unlimited access to the right of way; there must be an upper limit on the right of way. Tick Tock's two businesses did not create new supply. Instead of adding a vehicle on the road, they are reusing existing on-road capacity. Our vision is to have no empty seats on the road, so that every vehicle can maximize operational efficiency, and make the travel ecosystem more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Furthermore, the ride provides a place and opportunity for communication and communication between people. As Starbucks founder Schultz said, Starbucks was founded to provide consumers with a “third space” other than home and company. And Shunfeng can be said to have provided a “fourth space” for everyone. In the words of a Shunfeng user committee member, Shunfeng provides emotional value. This is the type of emotional energy most desired and desired by many Gen Z young people today. Through the ride ride model, you can meet fellow travelers of all kinds. They have different strengths and different personalities, and you can communicate, communicate, and learn with them.
In terms of these aspects, Tick Tock has natural ESG attributes. We are providing value to the environment and society, exploring potential efficiency gains, and not adding blockages.
03 Highly consistent in terms of long-term strategy and “customer first”
As a travel platform, maps are our core competency, core service, and core experience. When users open the Tick Tick Travel app or applet, the first thing they come into contact with is the map. All interactive actions such as searching, placing orders, and setting the starting point are all completed by the map.
Tick Tick Travel's map solution has gone through a continuous and gradual process of development.
At the earliest stage in 2014, Tick Tick's maps mainly relied on third-party partners; starting in 2018, after cooperating with two map vendors, Tick began self-development work on maps; in 2021, we developed our own solutions based on an open SDK and began to independently overcome technical difficulties at the map level. In 2022, we began collaborating with image merchants at the data level to begin preliminary self-research. In 2023, we began in-depth cooperation with Tencent Maps to build exclusive map capabilities for ride rides and taxis based on the strong data base and technical support capabilities of Tencent Maps Location Services.
There is a broad foundation of cooperation between Tick Tick and Tencent.
First, there is a deep foundation of cooperation, with more than 6 years of in-depth cooperation on public clouds; second, both parties have the need for joint construction and sharing. The user usage behavior of the Tick Tick Platform and the user experience of Tencent Maps have been collaboratively optimized, forming a closed loop of good development. Third, the two sides have the same long-term strategy. We also believe that everyone has mutual advantages, create the best self in their respective markets, and complement each other's strengths. Fourth, we are highly consistent in terms of the “user first” value. I am impressed by the importance Tencent attaches to users. When talking about things, what we all have in common is not about revenue or share, but about user experience.
04 Continue to build a win-win situation in the future and explore greater market opportunities together
Our cooperation with Tencent Maps Location Service is quite deep. The two sides have done a lot of interconnection work, all of which are very smooth and smooth, which has brought many results:
Through data sharing with Tencent Maps, we collaborated to build an overall architecture, unify the map data format and multi-platform map experience, and further enhance the user experience and experience consistency of Tick users in terms of positioning, distance calculation, etc.
At the same time, Tick Tick Travel's user feedback and data feedback have in turn promoted the further optimization and improvement of the Tencent Maps experience, forming a positive cycle of mutual promotion. It can be said that cooperation between the two sides can not only complement each other at the technical level, but also form joint efforts in market expansion and user service to achieve win-win cooperation.
In the future, Tick Tick Chuxing and Tencent Maps will continue to maintain the principle of co-building and win-win work, and they also hope to continue to discuss more and more in-depth cooperation in depth and breadth, including strategy. For example, in terms of smart cabins, taxi and ride owners, there are many opportunities for cooperation. Furthermore, in the field of driverless driving, Tick Tick Travel will also explore greater market opportunities with more partners in the industry chain.
