Eastman Chemical Insiders Sell US$2.5m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution

Simply Wall St ·  Sep 10 18:30

Over the past year, many Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Eastman Chemical Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Independent Director, David Raisbeck, for US$1.4m worth of shares, at about US$101 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$97.17. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.
