Financial Services Association, September 10 (Editor Liu Rui) On Monday EST, AMD CEO Lisa Su (Lisa Su) said in a speech that the supercycle of artificial intelligence has just begun, and AMD will target Nvidia's market dominance and accelerate the launch of high-performance artificial intelligence chips.

At a communications and technology conference hosted by Goldman Sachs, Su Zifeng said, “Artificial intelligence is a larger cycle than I anticipated five years ago, and we are now betting big on the next five years.”

AMD will accelerate the launch of high-performance AI chips

Nine months after the successful launch of AMD's Mi300x, Su Zifeng said that the new MI series chips will be released soon after.

Later this year, AMD will officially launch its MI325 artificial intelligence chip, launch the MI350 next year, and launch the MI400 in 2026 to challenge rival Nvidia's dominance.

Su Zifeng revealed that the new generation of MI series chips will have up to 192GB of memory and an astonishing 153 billion transistors. Strong memory capabilities mean AMD's artificial intelligence chips can be used to train large language models — like OpenAI's ChatGPT. Of course, the current AI chip market is still absolutely dominated by Nvidia, but AMD is rapidly catching up.

“We've accelerated our AI roadmap and launched new products on a one-year cycle,” Su Zifeng said. “This is an AI supercycle.”

“We believe we can make very significant progress in training and reasoning with these large language models,” added Su.

AMD's AI chip revenue will grow rapidly

Su Zifeng said that by the end of 2024, AMD's sales of MI300 chips alone may reach 4.5 billion US dollars. This forecast is far higher than AMD's revenue of about 0.1 billion US dollars for artificial intelligence-related chips last year, and is also higher than AMD's previous expectations — the company's previous expectations for the MI300 were around 4 billion US dollars this year.

“This is the fastest growing product in AMD history.” Su Zifeng said.

Wall Street is also confident about the future of AMD's AI chips. Jefferies analyst Blayne Curtis said in the client report: “Although market expectations (including our expectations) were all lowered (in the second quarter), the MI300 guidance was positive. AMD notes that supply/technology concerns have been exaggerated and said there were no cuts to their main customers this year (we think Microsoft, Meta, and Oracle are the top three). We expect AMD's revenue to remain around 5 billion dollars this year, which still supports the revenue potential of 8-9 billion dollars next year.”
