Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In Assured Guaranty

Simply Wall St ·  Sep 9 18:30

We wouldn't blame Assured Guaranty Ltd. (NYSE:AGO) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Dominic Frederico, the Deputy Chairman recently netted about US$2.5m selling shares at an average price of US$80.01. However, it's crucial to note that they remain very much invested in the stock and that sale only reduced their holding by 1.9%.

Assured Guaranty Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by Deputy Chairman Dominic Frederico was not their only sale of Assured Guaranty shares this year. They previously made an even bigger sale of -US$5.1m worth of shares at a price of US$92.83 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$77.93. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Assured Guaranty insiders didn't buy any shares over the last year. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Insider Ownership Of Assured Guaranty

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
