In the U.S. market on the previous week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 40,345.41, down 410.34 points (-1.01%), the Nasdaq closed at 16,690.83, down 436.83 points (-2.55%), and the S&P 500 closed at 5,408.42, down 94.99 points (-1.73%). The August employment statistics showed mixed results, leading to a slight increase at the opening, but concerns over a downward revision of employment figures for the past two months led to a slowdown in the labor market and the economy, and the market turned downward. The Nasdaq also fell due to the influence of semiconductor movements such as Nvidia. A member of the Federal Reserve Board (FRB) mentioned the need for policy adjustments in light of the employment statistics and expressed support for significant interest rate cuts, further increasing caution, and the market ended with an expanded decline. Following the decline in U.S. stocks at the end of last week, the Nikkei average started with selling today. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX), which consists of major semiconductor-related stocks in the United States, fell 4.51% compared to the previous day, leading to a decline in domestic semiconductor-related stocks. After the opening, the decline continued to widen, breaking through the psychological milestone of 36,000 yen, and remained in the range of around 350,000 yen for about a month during trading hours. The top contributors to the decline were Toyo Electric (8035) in first place and Shin-Etsu Chemical (4063) in second place, which pushed down the Nikkei average by about 69 yen with two stocks. The top decliners in the Nikkei average constituents were Laser Tech (6920), down 4.80%, and Isuzu Motors (7202), down 3.78%.

On the other hand, the top contributors to the increase were Daiichi Sankyo (4568) in first place and Konami Holdings (9766) in second place, which pushed up the Nikkei average by about 24 yen with two stocks. The top gainers in the Nikkei average constituents were Mercari (4385), up 5.14%, and Konami Holdings, up 2.78%.
