The US stock market fell. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 40,345.41, down 410.34 points, and the Nasdaq finished trading at 16,690.83, down 436.83 points.

The result of the August employment statistics was mixed, leading to a slight increase in the market. At the same time, concerns about the labor market and economic slowdown spread as a result of downward revisions to the number of employed persons in the past two months, causing the market to decline. The Nasdaq also fell due to the decline in semiconductor stocks such as Nvidia (NVDA) and the decrease in interest rates. Federal Reserve Board (FRB) member Waller mentioned the need for policy adjustments following the employment statistics and expressed support for significant rate cuts, thereby increasing the sense of caution. The market continued to decline, widening the decline in the late session. In terms of sectors, automobile and auto parts, as well as semiconductor and related manufacturing equipment, declined, while real estate saw a slight increase.

DocuSign (DOCU), a provider of electronic signature services, exceeded expectations for adjusted earnings per share in the second quarter and also exceeded expectations for its outlook, leading to an increase. Wells Fargo (WFC), a bank, fell as analysts lowered their target stock price. Super Micro Computer (SMCI), a server solution company, fell as analysts downgraded their investment rating due to investigations into compliance with regulations. Broadcom (AVGO), a semiconductor company, was sold off due to disappointing outlook driven by weakness in broadband-related sectors excluding artificial intelligence (AI).

The VIX index, which reflects investors' fear, reached a one-month high of 23.76.
