Fisco Japan ·  Sep 6 14:50

At the closing price on the 6th, the number of advancing stocks in the Nikkei average constituent stocks was 63, the number of declining stocks was 162, and the number of unchanged stocks was 0.

The U.S. stock market was mixed on the 5th. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 40,755.75, down 219.22 points (-0.54%), the Nasdaq rose 43.36 points (+0.25%) to 17,127.66, and the S&P 500 closed at 5,503.41, down 16.66 points (-0.30%). The sell-off was driven by unexpectedly weak August ADP employment statistics, raising concerns about the labor market and economic slowdown. However, the market recovered as the August ISM non-manufacturing index unexpectedly improved, easing concerns about a slowdown in the economy. Nevertheless, profit-taking sales were driven by caution ahead of the U.S. employment report scheduled for release on the 6th, leading to a further decline in the Dow and widening losses. The Nasdaq, supported by a rebound in semiconductor maker Nvidia, rose slightly, ending mixed.

Although US stocks were mixed, the Tokyo stock market started trading with a buying advantage, leading the way for a rebound against the recent decline. The anticipation of pension-related purchases remained strong, and after the opening, the Nikkei average rose to 36,898.28 yen. However, factors such as a stronger yen and concerns about tonight's US employment statistics weighed on the market, causing it to enter negative territory compared to the previous day. Due to the high caution surrounding the US employment statistics, active trading was restrained, and the market remained weak in the afternoon session.

The Nikkei average at the closing price was 36,391.47 yen, down 265.62 yen (-0.72%) from the previous day. The trading volume on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime market was 1.6843 billion shares, with a trading value of 3.8553 trillion yen. In terms of industry, machinery, iron & steel, electric appliances, nonferrous metals, and securities/commodity futures trading companies declined, while the electricity/gas industry, warehouse/transportation-related industry, retail trade, other products, and food sectors only rose. The number of advancing stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime market was 26%, while the number of declining stocks was 70%.
