The Dow fluctuated and fell as much as 455 points, closing down 219 points or 0.5% at 40,755 points; the S&P 500 index fell for three consecutive days.

The S&P 500 index closed down 16 points or 0.3% at 5,503 points; the Nasdaq narrowed its gains, closing up 43 points or 0.3% at 17,127 points.

Tesla (TSLA.US) rose 4.9% throughout the day, with the company stating that if regulatory approval is obtained, it will launch FSD in Europe and China in the first quarter of next year.

Technology stocks rebounded, with Amazon (AMZN.US) rising 2.6% and Nvidia (NVDA.US), which had fallen for two consecutive days, rising 0.9%. Apple (AAPL.US), Meta (META.US), and Alphabet (GOOG.US) all rose less than 1%.

Verizon (VZ.US) is acquiring Frontier Communications (FYBR.US) for $20 billion to expand its network, causing the latter's stock price to fall by 9.5%. Verizon also fell 0.4%.
