Fisco Japan ·  Sep 4 06:10

ADR (American Depositary Receipt) Japanese stocks, compared to the Tokyo Stock Exchange (converted at 1 dollar = 145.46 yen), Yucho Bank <7182>, Advantest <6857>, Tokyo Electron <8035>, Renesas <6723>, Disco <6146>, SoftBank Group <9984>, Shin-Etsu Chemical Industry <4063>, and others fell, with selling pressure prevailing overall. The settlement price of the Chicago Nikkei 225 futures was 37,595 yen, down 1,195 yen from the Osaka daytime comparison.

The U.S. stock market fell sharply. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the session down 626.15 points at 40,936.93, while the Nasdaq closed at 17,136.30, down 577.33 points. Concerns about a hard landing increased as the August ISM Manufacturing Index fell below expectations, leading to a decline after the opening. The Dow also accelerated profit-taking selling from its all-time high, and selling dominated throughout the day. Selling pressure on the semiconductor sector, such as NVIDIA (NVDA), also added further pressure, causing a significant decline in the Nasdaq, which expanded towards the end of the session.

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 3rd, the dollar-yen fell from 146.29 yen to 145.16 yen and closed at 145.58 yen. The dollar selling dominated due to the lower-than-expected August ISM Manufacturing Index, Manufacturing PMI revised figures, and July construction spending, incorporating the rate cut by the Federal Reserve Board (FRB) due to the deterioration of the U.S. economy. As the stock market fell, the yen buying for risk aversion also increased. At the same time, the demand for the safe-haven dollar supported the currency. The euro-dollar rose to 1.1068 dollars and then fell to 1.1026 dollars, closing at 1.1043 dollars. It was pushed down by euro selling in anticipation of additional rate cuts in September.

On the 3rd, NY crude oil futures for October continued to decline (NYMEX Crude Oil October futures closing price: 70.34, down 3.21).
