Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (00388.HK) announced that it has obtained the approval of the Securities and Futures Commission and will launch a weekly stock options series, which will be available for trading by market participants on November 4, 2024, when the market is ready. It is expected that investors will be able to more effectively manage the short-term risks of options portfolios by hedging risks with relatively fewer options, resulting in greater benefits. In addition to weekly expiration, the series is no different from regular options contracts.

HSBC Holdings plc (00005.HK), Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, Tencent Holdings Limited (00700.HK), Kuaishou Technology (01024.HK), BYD Company Limited (01211.HK), Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd. (02318.HK), Meituan (03690.HK), JD.com, Inc. (09618.HK), Baidu, Inc. (09888.HK), and Alibaba Group Holding Limited (09988.HK) will add weekly stock options.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited announced in May of this year that it will launch a series of weekly stock options within this year. At that time, Robby Lo, Head of Product Development of Securities Division, stated that the new product will further enhance the attractiveness of Hong Kong's derivatives market, provide investors with more product choices, and help them effectively manage risks.
