Cailianshe September 3 News (Editor Bian Chun) Statistics released on Monday showed that in August, electric car sales in Norway accounted for 94% of the local market share, setting a new world record. Meanwhile, electric car sales in other European countries remained stagnant.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (OFV) stated that with the promotion of Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Kona, Nissan Leaf, and other models, electric cars accounted for 94.3% of the country's new car registrations in August.

Among them, Tesla Model Y had the highest sales, surpassing 2,000 units, accounting for 18.8% of Norway's total electric car sales.

Norwegians bought 10,480 new electric cars in August, bringing the total electric car sales for the year to 68,435 units.

The strong sales of electric cars in Norway stand in sharp contrast to other European countries. In other parts of Europe, high prices and inadequate infrastructure hinder electric car sales, although sales of hybrid models have increased.

Despite being a major oil & gas producing country, Norway has set ambitious goals: to only sell zero-emission cars by 2025. This goal is 10 years ahead of the EU schedule.

Norway provides generous tax incentives to consumers, making electric vehicle prices competitive. In addition, allowing private electric cars to use bus lanes and parking subsidies has also driven the sharp increase in electric car sales in the country.

"In the electric car race, no country in the world can compare with Norway." OFV director Oyvind Solberg Thorsen said in a statement. "If this trend continues, we will soon achieve the goal of 100% zero-emission cars by 2025."

In contrast, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (EAMA), electric cars accounted for 12.1% of new car sales in the European Union in July this year, significantly behind gasoline cars (33.4%), hybrid cars (32%) and diesel cars (12.6%).
