Financial Union News September 1st (Editor Xia Junxiong) The campaign team of former US President and Republican candidate Trump recently stated that if Trump returns to the White House, he will abolish many of the clean energy regulations introduced by current President Biden, while speeding up the approval process for power plants to meet the growing electrical utilities demand in the USA.
During a phone conference organized by Trump's campaign team, David Bernhardt, former Secretary of the Interior in the Trump administration, stated that if Trump takes office again, he will immediately repeal all policies proposed by Biden and Harris that distort the energy market, restrict consumer choice, and increase consumer costs.
Bernhardt was referring to the clean energy regulations set by the Biden administration for power plants and automobile tailpipe emissions.
In March of this year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the USA issued the strictest ever automobile tailpipe emission regulations in the country, requiring light vehicles to have a maximum of 170 grams of CO2 emissions per mile by 2027, further limiting to 85 grams per mile by 2032.
In April, the EPA then issued regulations for power plants, mandating coal-fired power plants to install emission capture devices to reduce pollutant emissions, or face potential closure.
Bernhardt mentioned that Trump will expedite the approval of energy projects and authorize the construction of hundreds of new power plants, without specifying the fuel these power plants will use.
According to Bernhardt, Trump will revitalize the coal industry to ensure all Americans have access to affordable energy. He will also modernize the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the USA, accelerate the approval of new nuclear power plants, and extend the lifespan of existing nuclear power plants.
In addition, Burnhart also stated that Trump will once again withdraw from the Paris Agreement, just as he did during his previous tenure.
However, Trump's position on the Biden administration's landmark green bill, the Inflation Reduction Act, is still unclear.
In August 2022, the Biden administration launched the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest climate law in U.S. history, planning to invest 369 billion dollars in new energy and climate change projects, providing subsidies and tax incentives for a series of green industrial products.
Republicans generally oppose the Inflation Reduction Act, and some have proposed to repeal parts of the law.
When asked whether Trump would support the partial repeal of the Inflation Reduction Act, Trump's campaign advisor Corey Lewandowski avoided the question.
