Japanese stocks of ADR (American Depositary Receipt) such as Japan Post <6178>, Tokyo Electron <8035>, Advantest <6857>, Sumitomo Mitsui FG <8316>, Honda Motor Co Ltd <7267>, Mizuho FG <8411>, Mitsubishi Corp <8058>, etc., rose compared to the Tokyo Stock Exchange (conversion at 1 dollar = 146.19 yen), and overall buying predominated. The Chicago Nikkei 225 futures settlement value was 38,990 yen, 280 yen higher than Osaka daytime comparison.

The US stock market is on the rise. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 41,563.08, up 228.03 points, while the NASDAQ closed at 17,713.63, up 197.20 points. The July Core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index was as expected, and gradually rising expectations of interest rate cuts led to an increase in trading. Despite a temporary decline due to a rise in long-term interest rates, the market rebounded due to end-of-month buying factors, as well as improvements in the August University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index and the August Chicago Purchasing Managers Index, raising expectations for a soft landing and pushing stock prices higher in the final stages. The Dow continued to set new record highs on consecutive days and closed at these new highs.

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 30th, the dollar-yen rate rose from 145.24 yen to 146.25 yen and closed at 146.19 yen. In addition to real demand for end-of-month buying, the significant expectations of a large interest rate cut based on July's Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index waned, and the dollar's buying was further strengthened by the rise in long-term interest rates due to the US August Chicago Purchasing Managers Index and the August University of Michigan Consumer Confidence Index. The euro-dollar rate fell from 1.1088 dollars to 1.1044 dollars and closed at 1.0848 dollars. Selling of the euro was strengthened as consumer price index (CPI) in the Eurozone showed its slowest growth in three years, prompting expectations of a rate cut in September.

On the 30th, NY crude oil futures for October fell (NYMEX crude oil October settlement price: 73.55, down 2.36).
