American technology giant $Alphabet-C (GOOG.US)$ On Thursday (August 29), it was announced that they will open their second datacenter in Latin America in Canelones, Uruguay, and invest over 0.85 billion dollars.

In 2015, Google opened their first datacenter in Latin America near Santiago, the capital of Chile. At that time, the company invested an initial capital of $0.15 billion in the datacenter, and in 2018, they additionally invested $0.14 billion for expansion.

In response to the increasing demand for access to artificial intelligence, Google stated in a blog post on Thursday, 'We hope that our new datacenter in Canuelones will make a significant contribution to the professional and technological development of Uruguay and the entire region.'

Google also mentioned that they are collaborating with local universities in Uruguay, such as the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC) and the University of Montevideo (UM), with the aim of incorporating relevant technical content into their courses.

'We are collaborating with the main partners in the Uruguayan ecosystem - the National Development Agency (ANDE) and the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) - to promote business and innovation.'

Building a second datacenter in Latin America is just one step in the expansion of Google's territory. According to previous reports, Google is also considering the construction of a large-scale datacenter near Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, which is expected to be completed by 2027.

In addition, in April of this year, Google announced an investment of 3 billion USD to establish a data center campus in Indiana and expand data centers in Virginia; in May, Google stated that it will invest 2 billion USD in Malaysia to develop its first data center and Google Cloud region in the country.
