Fisco Japan ·  Aug 30 16:07

At the closing of the market on the 30th, the number of advancing stocks in the Nikkei average constituents was 155, the number of declining stocks was 67, and the number of unchanged stocks was 3.

The U.S. stock market on the 29th was mixed. The Dow Jones rose by 243.63 points (+0.59%) to 41,335.05 points, the Nasdaq fell by 39.60 points (-0.23%) to 17,516.43, and the S&P 500 ended trading down 0.22 points (-0.004%). The GDP and revised personal consumption figures for the April-June quarter exceeded expectations, leading to an upward trend after the opening. The strength of the domestic economy, labor market, and consumption indicated an improvement in economic outlook, driving the market higher. Towards the end, concerns about high interest rates, semiconductor manufacturers, and the decline of Nvidia weighed on the Nasdaq, causing it to turn negative, while the Dow narrowed its gains but still hit a record high.

Due to the mixed performance of US stocks, the Tokyo market started off without a clear direction. The Nikkei average started trading at the previous day's closing level, but rebounded due to factors such as the yen weakening as the exchange rate reached 145 yen to the dollar. The prime market saw trading volume of 5 trillion yen due to buying and selling related to the MSCI rebalancing at the close, but it was a day focused on buying and selling due to end-of-month supply and demand.

At the close, the Nikkei average was 38,647.75 yen, up 285.22 yen (+0.74%) from the previous day. The trading volume on the Tokyo Stock Exchange prime market was 2,057 million shares, with a trading value of 5.1924 trillion yen. In terms of industry, nonferrous metals, marine transportation, wholesale trade, service industry, electrical and gas industry, etc. rose, while precision instruments, retail trade, warehousing and transportation related industry, pharmaceuticals, and food industry declined. The prime market on the Tokyo Stock Exchange saw a 67.2% increase in stocks and a 28.8% decrease in stocks.
