Warrior Met Coal Insider Lowered Holding By 79% During Last Year

Simply Wall St ·  Aug 27 20:48

Insiders were net sellers of Warrior Met Coal, Inc.'s (NYSE:HCC ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders sold more stock than they bought.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Warrior Met Coal

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Director, Stephen Williams, sold US$3.6m worth of shares at a price of US$45.60 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$57.94. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was 79% of Stephen Williams's stake. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Stephen Williams.

Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Warrior Met Coal insiders own about US$53m worth of shares. That equates to 1.7% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
