Dato’ Sri Lim Wee Chai, the executive chairman of Top Glove (7113, mainboard healthcare stock), was awarded the Public University Alumni Charity Award, recognizing his contribution to higher education in Malaysia, especially at the University of Malaya.

During the epidemic, Lim Wee Chai provided financial assistance and personal care equipment to the University of Malaya Medical Center (UMMC). Lim Wee Chai also donated supplies to major hospitals to ensure the well-being of medical staff and patients. He donated RM2 million in 2023 to build Malaysia’s first medical museum and upgrade the anatomy data center and pathology museum of the University of Malaya Medical School.

At the award ceremony, Lim Wee Chai said: “I am very honored to receive this award. My time at the University of Malaya shaped who I am today, and it is also an honor for me to give back to my alma mater.”

In addition to Lim Wee Chai, Dato’ Dr. Darren Tan, the vice chairman of Forest City, was also honored, while famous artist Awang Damit and diving champion Pandelela Rinong each received the "Alumni Model Award" and the "Young Hope Alumni Award," respectively.

Lim Wee Chai graduated from the Physics Department of the University of Malaya in 1982, and then obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from Sul Ross State University in Texas, USA. He also obtained a Doctor of Management degree from Selangor University. He has also been awarded honorary doctorate degrees in many places.

The award presenters included Dr. Zaini Ujang, the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Laman Noordin, the Deputy Chairman of the Public University Alumni Association, Dato' Seri Noraini Ahmad, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education, and Professor Azlinda Azman, the Director of the Ministry of Higher Education.
