Have Insiders Sold Mativ Holdings Shares Recently?

Simply Wall St ·  Aug 18 20:47

Anyone interested in Mativ Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:MATV) should probably be aware that the President, Julie Schertell, recently divested US$214k worth of shares in the company, at an average price of US$17.81 each. On the bright side, that sale was only 4.1% of their holding, so we doubt it's very meaningful, on its own.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Mativ Holdings

Notably, that recent sale by Julie Schertell is the biggest insider sale of Mativ Holdings shares that we've seen in the last year. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even slightly below the current price of US$18.16. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 4.1% of Julie Schertell's stake.

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 38.00k shares worth US$628k. But insiders sold 12.00k shares worth US$214k. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by Mativ Holdings insiders. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Does Mativ Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 2.1% of Mativ Holdings shares, worth about US$21m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
