Anyone interested in Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance, Inc. (NYSE:ARI) should probably be aware that the Independent Director, Scott Prince, recently divested US$403k worth of shares in the company, at an average price of US$10.07 each. That sale was 49% of their holding, so it does make us raise an eyebrow.

Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by Scott Prince was the biggest sale of Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even slightly below the current price of US$10.20. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was only 49% of Scott Prince's holding.
