The US stock market is mixed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended trading down 140.53 points at 39,357.01, while the Nasdaq rose 35.31 points to 16,780.61. The market rose in anticipation of a soft landing but turned downward due to potential geopolitical risks arising from Iran's retaliation against Israel. However, the Nasdaq index remained steady due to repurchasing of cheap semiconductor stocks such as Nvidia. Meanwhile, the Dow was affected by profit taking and a readjustment of sell orders due to an important inflation indicator announcement, causing the decline to widen and resulting in a mixed result.

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 12th, the dollar-yen exchange rate rose to 148.22 yen before falling to 147.03 yen before the closing at 147.25 yen. Bowman, a director of the Federal Reserve Board, stated that inflation is still uncomfortably above the target rate and referred to the risk of upward inflation, showing a cautious attitude toward a rate cut, which resulted in an increase in dollar buying due to a rise in long-term interest rates. Subsequently, with the expected inflation rate of the NY Fed decreasing the probability of a rate cut by the end of the year, interest rates fell which in turn increased the selling pressure on the dollar. Reports of a possible attack by Iran on Israel within 24 hours resulted in increased geopolitical risks, causing an increase in yen-buying as a result of risk avoidance. The Euro to dollar exchange rate fell to 1.0915 dollars before rising to 1.0939 dollars and closing at 1.0931 dollars.

NY crude oil futures for September were significantly up (NYMEX crude oil September contract price: 80.06, up 3.22%).
