The Hong Kong government today announced the appointment of the AI funding program committee. The Hong Kong government has allocated HK$3 billion for a three-year AI funding program to fund local universities, research institutions, and businesses to leverage the computing power provided by the Cyberport AI Supercomputing Center; strengthen the network security and data protection of the supercomputing center; and conduct promotion and education activities to attract AI experts, companies, and R&D projects to Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong government stated that the committee will be responsible for implementing the AI funding program, providing opinions on overall direction, administration and operation mode, and evaluating the eligibility of supercomputing center computing power assistance applications, including specific funding amounts, deadlines, and usage conditions.

The AI funding program committee is appointed by the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, with members from the IT, AI, public administration, and business sectors, serving a term of three years starting from Thursday (15th). In addition, Cyberport is establishing a supercomputing center, with the first phase of facilities expected to be put into service this year.
