Among them, the enhanced standard battery life version increased from 39,490 US dollars to 3,9990 US dollars, and the long-life all-wheel drive version increased from 48,490 US dollars to 48,990 US dollars.
The reason for the price increase is related to the decline in US federal government subsidies for new energy vehicles enjoyed by the Truss model. As early as November of this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent an email to all Tesla employees in November, saying that his biggest job now is to deliver as many cars as possible in the fourth quarter of 2019. In addition to boosting sales, the reason is that the federal tax credit policy enjoyed by Tesla will end in 2020.
According to reports, in order to promote the development of electric vehicles, the US government is currently implementing federal tax credits to encourage car companies to develop and sell pure electric vehicles. Any company that starts producing electric vehicles can initially receive a subsidy of 7,500 US dollars per vehicle, but when the cumulative sales volume of pure electric vehicles by car companies exceeds 200,000 units, the subsidy decline mechanism will be triggered.
After the subsidy decline mechanism was triggered, starting from the second quarter after meeting the standards, the subsidy was halved to 3,750 US dollars in the first and second quarters, and then halved to 1,875 US dollars in the third and fourth quarters. Since then, they have not enjoyed this subsidy. In July of last year, Tesla achieved sales volume exceeding 200,000 units in the US. This means that 2019 is the last year Tesla is receiving US subsidies.
When increasing the price of the two Model 3 models, Tesla marked the top of the options page in clear font, “Vehicles delivered on December 31 will no longer enjoy the $1,875 federal tax credit.”
Currently, on the Chinese version of Tesla's official website, the price of the domestic Model 3 has not changed yet, but it is not ruled out that Tesla may adjust it in the future. In fact, since this year, Tesla has made several price adjustments in the Chinese market.
The highest drop in the Model X model was over 300,000 yuan in March, and there were also price cuts of varying degrees for Model 3 and Models. In July, the price of the Model 3 series was lowered again, with a maximum drop of more than 30,000 yuan. Meanwhile, on October 25, Tesla also adjusted the price of the domestic model 3 to 355,800 yuan, up 27,800 yuan from the previous starting price of 328,000 yuan.
