CRI Middleware <3698> announced on the 7th that it has participated in the project “Open SDV Initiative” established with the aim of standardizing APIs, which are important for software-defined vehicles (hereinafter SDV) in the mobility area.

An SDV is a next-generation automobile whose functions can be upgraded by changing/updating the installed software. In Japan, a mobility DX strategy was announced by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2024/5, and the goal is to increase the Japanese market share of SDVs worldwide to 30% by 2030. In SDV, applications such as driving support and entertainment functions are mounted on vehicles, and functions can be expanded with updates using Over The Air (OTA) technology that transmits and receives data via wireless communication.

The “Open SDV Initiative” is a project established with the aim of domestic standardization of the “vehicle API,” which connects automobile software and hardware. The company exchanged opinions with Professor Hiroaki Takada of the Nagoya University Graduate School of Informatics, who serves as the chair of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry/Ministry of Land, Transport and Tourism Mobility DX Review Committee, and as a result, they sympathized with the similarities between middleware and vehicle APIs developed by the company in the entertainment area, thought they could contribute to the SDV area with the technology and knowledge they have cultivated, and decided to participate in the “Open SDV Initiative” project.
