According to a report by American financial trading company Visa, the Paris Olympics this time is obviously cost-effective, effectively driving the increase in consumer spending, and thus bringing a boost to the French economy.
The report pointed out that during the first weekend of the Olympics (July 27-28), sales of small businesses in Paris to Visa cardholders increased by 26% compared to the same period last year. Outside of Paris, consumer spending in cities such as Saint-Étienne, Lille and Marseille, where events were held, also increased significantly, with growth rates of 214%, 100% and 38%, respectively.
Among overseas Olympic-related consumption, American Visa cardholders accounted for the largest share, and their consumption was 29% higher than the same period last year. Brazilian (+33%) and Japanese (+129%) cardholders showed significant year-on-year growth in consumption.

Long-term Effects
Last weekend, the French National Institute for Statistics and Economic Research released data stating that the 2024 Paris Olympics is expected to boost France's third-quarter GDP by an additional 0.3 percentage points. Ticket sales and audiovisual broadcasting revenues from the Olympics had a direct positive impact on the French economy, with a contribution rate of 0.25 percentage points.
