At the closing on the 7th, the number of rising stocks in Nikkei Stock Average constituent stocks was 162, the number of declining stocks was 63, and the number of unchanged stocks was 0.
The US stock market rebounded on the 6th. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 38,997.66 (+294.39, +0.76%), the Nasdaq at 16,366.86 (+166.78, +1.03%), and the S&P500 at 5,240.03 (+53.70, +1.04%). Many shares were bought because the previous day's drop was considered to be an overreaction. Concerns over serious economic downturns eased, and the investor mood improved. In addition, the good earnings of some major companies such as Caterpillar prompted traders to buy back shares during the day. High-tech stocks also rose sharply and the market ended in the plus zone despite losing momentum at the end.
While US stocks are regaining stability, the volatile Tokyo market started trading with selling dominance. After the start, the Nikkei Average widened its losses to 33,739.46 yen, but in the cash market banking stocks were bought back and the TOPIX turned around. Just after 10:00, BOJ Deputy Governor Uchida Shinichi stated at the Financial Economic Discussion Meeting being held in Hakodate, "There will be no interest rate hikes in an unstable financial capital market," and said, "We need to continue monetary easing firmly at the current level for the time being." As a result, the exchange rate temporarily fluctuated with the dollar rising about 3 yen to the 147-yen level. At the timing of the weaker yen, the Nikkei Average quickly turned around and temporarily expanded its gains by more than 1,000 yen. While the current back and forth is frustrating, the steady progress of US stock futures also supported the downside.
At the close, the Nikkei Average was 35,089.62 yen, up 414.16 yen (+1.19%) from the previous day. The trading volume on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market was 3.29536 billion shares, with a trading value of 7.3744 trillion yen. Stocks in the banking, wholesale, securities and commodity futures trading, insurance, machinery, and other sectors rose, while rubber products, mining, marine transportation, oil and coal products, and metal products declined. The ratio of risers to fallers on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market was 66.3% to 31.9%.
