Kawabe <8123> is a traditional specialized trading company that engages in manufacturing, wholesaling, and retailing personal and fashion accessories such as handkerchiefs, scarves, mufflers, and fragrances, with a main focus on wholesaling to overseas department stores of renowned brands. They also operate directly-managed retail stores mainly centered on house-brand bags, under the name 'Intermode Kawabe', to cater to a diverse range of consumer needs.
Kawabe Trading Co., Ltd. was founded in February 1923 in Nihonbashi Tachibanacho, Tokyo as a manufacturing and wholesaling company of handkerchiefs. In September 1964, it changed its name to its current name, Kawabe. In July 1979, its stocks were registered with the Japan Securities Dealers Association and it is now listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard Market. In February 2023, it celebrates its 100th anniversary.
The group is composed of this company, Rainbow World Co., Ltd. (Noshiro City, Akita), Salty Co., Ltd. (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo), and Kawabe (Shanghai) Trading Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China) which is an equity-method affiliate. The parent company of the company is Daihiro Co., Ltd. which owns 55.6% of voting rights. Daihiro is a major manufacturer and seller of towels and a core company of the Towel Museum Group.
