Contributing to reducing CO2 emissions (embedded carbon) during construction

LIXIL Co., Ltd. (hereafter LIXIL) is the first to adopt a recycled low-carbon aluminum profile “PreMiAL R100” (PREMIal R100) with a 100% recycled aluminum usage ratio for the “Midori Company House” (location: Tsukuba-shi, Ibaraki-ken; hereafter, Midori Company House), which is Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereafter, Sumitomo Forestry).
By adopting “PreMiAL R100,” it can contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions (embedded carbon) during construction, and also contribute to improving the environmental value of buildings.

Sumitomo Forestry has been promoting efforts to visualize and reduce CO₂ emissions in the construction industry for some time, and we believe that visualizing embedded carbon in buildings is extremely important for achieving carbon neutrality in the construction industry.
Even in the “Green Company House,” which is a medium to large-scale building with a mixed wooden structure, embedded carbon is visualized from the time of design, and in addition to continuous monitoring to reduce CO₂ emissions, we are urging component and building material manufacturers to obtain EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) *1 for the materials used.
*1 An ISO-compliant environmental certification label showing CO₂ emissions over the entire life cycle of a product from resource collection to disposal
“PreMial R100” has acquired the environmental label program “Eco Leaf” *2, which is one of the EPD certification systems. It has been certified by Eco Leaf that CO₂ emissions from raw material procurement, transportation, and manufacturing are 2.9 kg, and quantification of embodied carbon emissions has been realized. This means that CO₂ emissions of aluminum profiles using 100% new ingots can be reduced by approximately 80% *3.
*2 It is an environmental information disclosure method system operated by the Sustainable Management Promotion Organization (SumPO) and complies with the international standard “ISO 14025 Type III Environmental Declaration (EPD)”.
*3 Based on LIXIL trial calculation
LIXIL has set the Environmental Vision 2050 “Zero Carbon and Circular Living (Zero CO₂ and Circular Living),” and aims to reduce CO2 emissions from business processes and products and services to virtually zero by 2050. In order to realize the vision, the environmental strategy has set “mitigation and adaptation through climate change countermeasures” and “promotion of resource recycling” as priority areas. In the housing business, we have set a target of using 100% recycled aluminum by the fiscal year ending 2031/3.
LIXIL will continue to promote resource recycling and reduce environmental impact through recyclable low-carbon materials, starting with Premium, and work to create an impact (positive impact) on society.

■ Features of the “Premial R100”
bigjpg“PreMiAL R100” is a recyclable low-carbon aluminum profile that uses 100% recycled aluminum as raw materials. By obtaining the “[Eco Leaf] Environmental Label” *4 certified by a third party, it is possible to quantitatively indicate the environmental impact of building materials used during construction, contributing to improving the environmental value of buildings using low-carbon building materials. CO₂ emissions from raw material procurement, transportation, and manufacturing are 2.9 kg per kg of “PreMiAL R100,” and when compared to aluminum profiles using 100% new ingot, it contributes to an 80% reduction in CO₂ emissions. *Quoted from 4
