WeChat reminds citizens to beware of fraudulent WeChat customer service scams.

Tencent's instant messaging software, WeChat, announced that the team noticed that some illegal elements in Hong Kong pretended to be WeChat customer service or bank staff. They informed users that their 'million-dollar guarantee' or 'financial security guarantee' will expire soon and need to be terminated to avoid additional charges. They also tricked users into sharing screen screenshots and personal information, and lured users to transfer funds to scammer accounts by claiming that their accounts were frozen and needed to be unlocked by clicking a link.

WeChat reminded citizens to beware of counterfeit WeChat customer service scams and clarified that the 'million-dollar guarantee' is an insurance service provided to users for free and activated by default in the RMB wallet of WeChat Pay. They emphasized that all words such as renewing the guarantee, opening the guarantee which requires payment, and customer service assistance to cancel it are all fraudulent behaviors. They urged citizens not to believe and provide personal information and to be aware of identifying fake phishing text messages and not to click any unknown links.
