He pointed out that FSD requires too little intervention from drivers in some cases, and can even continue to operate when drivers are not paying attention to the road, which undoubtedly increases the risk of accidents. He said on the 24th of this month that FSD will officially enter the Chinese market in version V12.5 or V12.6.

FSD is embroiled in safety controversy again.

Stein said that FSD's ability to handle complex road conditions is obviously insufficient. The vehicle almost collided with a vehicle that had just completed a right turn, indicating that the system has deficiencies in recognizing stationary or slow-moving obstacles.

"When the vehicle in front of us just completed a right turn, the Model Y accelerated through the intersection. My quick intervention was absolutely necessary, otherwise there would have been an accident."

During the test drive, the FSD system requires low intervention from the driver, and can even continue to operate when the driver is not paying attention to the road. Stein believes that this "excessive confidence" increases the risk of accidents.

"I completely moved my head away from the road, and the system issued a warning after running continuously for 20-40 seconds."

In addition, FSD has changed lanes multiple times on roads where lane changes are prohibited, indicating that the system still has deficiencies in understanding and complying with traffic rules.

This is Stein's second attempt at FSD, and the evaluations of the two attempts were mixed. In his first evaluation, he wrote:"Very good, but not useful today." In this test drive, he concluded:"There hasn't been much improvement, maybe even worse."

Stein's two drives were carried out in sunny and dry suburbs of New York. He said that the test FSD version was "really great", but it is still far from "solving" the problem of autonomous driving.

As electric autos sales slow down, Musk places more emphasis on FSD and Tesla's wider AI experiments. Tesla's stock price has experienced a rollercoaster-like trend, plummeting by 40% from the beginning of the year to April but rising against the trend in June. Currently, Tesla's stock price is $232.1.

Tesla has no comment on the report released by Stein. Musk posted a message on X on Monday, saying that Tesla is deploying an upgraded version of FSD, but "this does not mean that the company can achieve fully autonomous driving."
