Ltd. <4502>, Orient Land <4661>, SoftBank Group <9984>, Japan Post <6178>, Disco <6146>, etc., experienced a general sale which resulted as a decline. The Chicago Nikkei 225 futures clearing price was 38,330 yen, a decrease of 120 yen compared to the Osaka daytime market closing.
The US stock market was mixed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 49.41 dollars to 40,539.93 at the close of trading, while the Nasdaq rose 12.32 points to 17,370.20. The buying continued after the favorable earnings announcements of the companies, causing an increase in trading after opening. In the absence of major economic indicators, the market was sluggish in anticipation of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), and the Dow turned downward due to selling on a cautious note. The Nasdaq remained sluggish in its bottom-line trend due to its persistent anticipation for the major high-tech corporate earnings and closed mixed in the market.
On the foreign exchange market in New York on the 29th, the dollar-yen rate rose from 153.73 yen to 154.21 yen, closing at 154.05 yen. Following the increase in the value of the dollar due to buying adjustments, nervousness prevailed, and the dollar buying declined due to unexpectedly low forecasts of US July Dallas Federal Reserve manufacturing activity index. The euro-dollar rate fell to 1.0803 dollars, rose to 1.0825 dollars, and closed at 1.0820 dollars.
The NY crude oil futures for September fell (nyymex crude oil for September: 75.81 ↓1.35).
