What is "Naha Ohtsunahiki"?
Naha Ohtsunahiki is the largest and most traditional cultural event in Okinawa, inheriting the tradition of Naha's Shichosonagashi during the Ryukyu Kingdom period. Its origin is said to be around 1450 AD. It was certified as the "world's straw rope" in 1995 and has become firmly established as Okinawa's largest traditional event, contributing greatly to the promotion of tourism in Okinawa and becoming a source of pride for citizens and residents of Naha City and Okinawa Prefecture.
