Several Insiders Invested In GeneDx Holdings Flagging Positive News

Simply Wall St ·  Jul 22 20:40

It is usually uneventful when a single insider buys stock. However, When quite a few insiders buy shares, as it happened in GeneDx Holdings Corp.'s (NASDAQ:WGS) case, it's fantastic news for shareholders.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

GeneDx Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Chairman of the Board Jason Ryan for US$161k worth of shares, at about US$1.54 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$31.83), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$202k for 129.74k shares. But they sold 4.59k shares for US$41k. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by GeneDx Holdings insiders. Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Insiders own 2.3% of GeneDx Holdings shares, worth about US$19m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
