Director of the Macao Tourism Bureau, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, stated at an event that the average daily number of tourists visiting Macao in July is higher than that in June. With the addition of this year's International Fireworks Display Contest and the Festival of Lights on Nam Van Lake, she is confident that the number of inbound tourists will exceed the target of 33 million by the end of the year.
She also mentioned that the bureau is planning a fireworks display celebration on December 20th to mark the anniversary of Macao's return to China, and called on the tourism industry and small and medium-sized enterprises to launch special promotions in December. In addition, she noted that shopping accounted for the largest proportion of consumer spending among tourists visiting Macao in the first quarter of this year, accounting for 48%, followed by lodging and dining.
