In Q2 2024, global PC shipments increased by 3.1% year-on-year, reaching 62.5 million units. This is also the second consecutive quarter that PC market shipments have achieved year-on-year growth. In terms of product structure, the operating income of products worth 10-30 billion yuan were respectively 401/1288/60 million yuan.

According to the preliminary data from Counterpoint, global PC shipments in Q2 of 2024 increased by 3.1% year-on-year, reaching 62.5 million units. This is also the second consecutive quarter that PC market shipments have achieved year-on-year growth. This growth was driven by a mild replacement cycle and relatively low base period, highlighting the continued recovery of the global PC market in 2024. AI PC is still the hottest topic in the PC industry. Laptops equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X platform have sparked the first wave of AI laptops. It is expected that the release of AMD Ryzen AI 300 and Intel Lunar Lake in the second half of 2024 will further promote the popularity of AI PCs.

Despite the sluggish market demand, Lenovo still maintains its leading position among PC manufacturers with a 23.6% market share and about 4% year-on-year growth in shipments. Thanks to the orders returning to their original levels in North America, HP and Dell's performance this quarter was stable. HP's market share in Q2 2024 was 21%, and Dell's was 16%. Apple's performance this quarter was stable, with a market share of 8.5%. The company is waiting for the release of a new MacBook with the M4 chip, hoping to achieve shipment growth by the end of 2024. Overall, the rankings and shares of these brands in Q2 of 2024 remained basically unchanged.

Thanks to the surge in AI devices based on the Windows on ARM architecture in the second quarter of 2024, AI laptops will drive the expansion of the AI PC market in the second half of 2024. Compared with mainstream x86 architecture, these solutions based on Qualcomm Snapdragon have higher power performance. Counterpoint believes that the cooperation between MediaTek and Nvidia in the next generation of AI laptops based on ARM architecture will also drive the expansion of their corresponding PC market share in 2025-2026, and x86 manufacturers' market share will be affected. It is expected that by 2027, PC devices based on ARM architecture will account for more than 25% of the market share.

Senior analyst William Li said, "The second half of 2024 will be the battlefield for AI PCs. Manufacturers are promoting the popularity of AI PCs and the rise of a new technological era. However, due to the high price of AI PCs, we believe that enterprise (commercial) demand will lead the mainstream consumer market, and in the first year of the launch of AI PCs, we may find that its popularity speed is not too high. As more AI cases and solutions are developed and adopted on the PC side, we will see its more rapid deployment and popularity in the future. Thanks to the demand for AI PCs and the updating and replacement cycle after the COVID-19 epidemic, we still believe that PC shipments will increase by around 3% in 2024."
