A verification report on Shimadzu Seisakusho's automatic microplastic pretreatment device “MAP-100” (released in August 2023) was approved by the Ministry of the Environment, and the “Reiwa 5 Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Project” verification number and logo mark were given to this product. The “MAP-100” is the world's first pre-treatment device dedicated to microplastics analysis that automates the extraction and recovery process of microplastics in environmental water such as rivers and lakes. The points of this product “improving the accuracy of measurement data, which is the basis for research and environmental policy decisions on the origin and distribution of microplastics by automating complicated pretreatment processes and reducing human errors,” and “this product is the only device in the world that automates pre-processing of microplastics measurements” were evaluated.

The “Environmental Technology Verification Project” is a business where a third party objectively demonstrates important performance from the viewpoint of environmental conservation effects and secondary environmental impacts of advanced environmental technology that has already been put into practical use. By demonstrating the target technology, environmental conservation effects, etc. can be easily compared and examined when purchasing or introducing technology by users of environmental technology, making it possible to make appropriate choices. The purpose of this is to promote the spread of environmental technology, contribute to environmental conservation, and contribute to the development of the environmental industry, including the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
We provide various products used to analyze microplastics in environmental water, such as Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometers that identify types of plastics, and particle imaging devices that measure the number and shape. Furthermore, by automating the pre-treatment process for analysis with “MAP-100,” we contribute to the development of environmental surveys and research aimed at source countermeasures. Shimadzu will continue to utilize its broad product range and analytical measurement technology know-how to provide solutions to social issues together with partners around the world.
