[Nikkei Stock Average and TOPIX (Table)]
Nikkei average; 41359.90; + 169.22. TOPIX; 2914.67; + 20.11. The afternoon Nikkei average started with a slightly smaller gain from the morning (41399.72 yen) at 41359.90 yen + 169.22 yen from the previous day. The Nikkei 225 futures during lunchtime were range-bound between 41340 yen-41430 yen. Dollar / yen has been about 50 yen lower since around 9:00 am at 1 dollar = 158.60-70 yen on a yen-weak / dollar-strong level. Asian market conditions are generally lower, with the Shanghai Composite Index trending slightly lower, down about 0.2%, while the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong is down about 1.4%.
The afternoon Tokyo market started with some selling ahead of the morning close. Although the Nikkei average fell sharply last weekend, some are cautious about short-term high-price vigilance and are refraining from active buying. On the other hand, the yen exchange rate is swinging in the direction of a weaker yen / stronger dollar in the foreign exchange market, raising expectations for the performance of export companies. It seems that the Dow Jones average futures have become a strong support factor for the Tokyo market stock prices as they move steadily outside of trading hours.
