The contract value is 7.8 billion riyals (about 2 billion US dollars), which is the largest single contract amount since the construction of the ancient city of Diriyah project was established.
The China Construction Consortium includes China Construction and Saudi Arabia's El Seif Engineering Contracting Company (El Seif Engineering Contracting Company). The project is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2024 in the northern area of the ancient city of Diriyah.
Once completed, the project will host 0.1 million residents, workers, students, and visitors, providing diverse spaces including culture, recreation, retail, hotels, education, and housing.
The construction area of the project is about 0.34 million square meters, including the construction of King Salman University, the Misk Heritage Institute, King Salman Square, the Capella Hotel, and the King Salman Foundation Library. King Salman University covers an area of 28,882 square meters and is 18 meters high; while the Misk Heritage Institute will be a museum covering an area of 11,307 square meters and a height of 22 meters.
Diriyah was founded in 2022, and the construction contract awarded this time is part of the region's development schedule. The $1.8 billion contract awarded by Diriyah in June 2021 ensured the implementation of major infrastructure-related work in the region, such as the construction of a road tunnel and the world's largest casting — 6,100 cubic meters of concrete in a single pass.
Last year, Saudi Arabia included the Diriyah Tourism Project in the Public Investment Fund (PIF) investment list, with the goal of improving investment efficiency and promoting public-private partnerships.
